Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients
  

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour spooned and leveled
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt until well combined
  3. In a large stand mixer, cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla extract
  5. Gradually add dry ingredient mixture to wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined
  6. Fold in chocolate chips using a rubber spatula until evenly distributed
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing cookies 2 inches apart
  8. Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and centers are set but still soft
  9. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely

Notes

For chewier cookies, chill dough for 30 minutes before baking. Store in airtight container for up to 5 days.
